What Is Employee Growth Rate & Why Is It Important?

The Meta Sound Design team is seeking an experienced leader to define and incubate new opportunities for AI voice and audio experiences in the metaverse. The AI Voice and Audio Lead will work across Sound Design workstreams, leveraging subject matter expertise to provide strategic guidance and creative leadership in evaluating and identifying opportunities to leverage AI across the department’s portfolio of initiatives. The Lead will work to formally integrate AI design thinking and capabilities into the organization’s core competencies in order to conduct AI-focused work from within. In addition, (s)he will establish partnerships internally with R&D and Product teams, as well as externally with third-party AI industry touchpoints. The AI Lead’s work ultimately seeks to ensure that Sound Design is positioned as the leader in connecting people through voice and sound by advocating for the development of transformative AI experiences in the metaverse, helping drive the creation of AI-powered tooling and concepts, and supporting strategic partnerships and acquisition opportunities that ensure that Meta remains highly competitive in the AI audio space. This role requires a combination of product, strategy, and technical excellence with expert knowledge in AI/ML approaches and advances, Product, and Voice/audio design. Strong pattern recognition skills and an aptitude for identifying future-focused opportunities are a must. The ideal candidate is passionate about innovation, is highly collaborative, and has an exceptional ability to bring ideas to life through prototyping and collaborating with audio/product designers, engineers, and researchers.

AI Voice & Audio Lead, Sound Design Responsibilities:

  • Set vision and strategy for AI voice and audio experiences across Meta products and surfaces (TTS, speech synthesis, real time voice skins, generative/dynamic music and sound)
  • Conduct tech and design/R&D portfolio scan to assess current capabilities at the organization and company level and identify innovation opportunities, and develop a portfolio of AI concepts and prototypes
  • Communicate effectively, including presenting and storytelling, to organization and executive leadership
  • Provide thought leadership, direction, and advocacy for novel AI voice and audio opportunities, acting as a discipline lead within the organization
  • Establish cross-organization partnerships, influence priorities, and drive alignment between Sound Design and Meta Product and Research teams
  • Participate in industry outreach to cultivate 3P partnerships aligned with Meta’s Mission and strategy
  • Work with leadership to develop a domain focused staffing matrix and best practices conducive to AI voice and audio exploration/innovation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional experience working on innovative AI voice and audio projects
  • 5+ years experience working in a lead or management capacity, managing multiple complex projects and stakeholders
  • AI voice and audio domain expertise, with knowledge of AI/ML systems and implementations, across a spectrum of machine learning approaches and advances
  • Expert knowledge of core audio concepts, techniques, and tooling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with user centered design principles
  • Solid product intuition and experience driving impact with limited resources
  • Excellent collaboration skills working with cross functional partners (research, design, engineering)
  • Outstanding communication skills – experience translating complex ideas into understandable concepts
  • Proven experience working in ambiguous settings on nascent or emergent problems
  • Experience shipping AI voices (TTS) or AI audio product (critical to earning trust and influence from stakeholders and leadership)
  • Experience building teams and innovation projects from scratch
  • Knowledge of emerging technology and industry developments in ML, Web3, NFT, blockchain, deepfakes, voice design, etc.
