What Is Employee Growth Rate & Why Is It Important?

Network Engineers at Meta are hybrid software/network engineers who ensure that Meta’s network and related services run smoothly and have the capacity for future growth. Data Analytics, network (re)design, and automation are keys to meeting our demands; you will be responsible for conceiving, developing, and deploying software and network systems and tools that improve reliability and efficiency in our global network.Meta’s backbone network connects our datacenters around the world. Designing and building connectivity at scale requires an approach that combines deep understanding of networking fundamentals such as MPLS and BGP in combination with automation and an interest to work closely with our teams that build the SDN software stack.Do you want to work on one of the most dynamic, fast-paced networks in the world? Backbone Core Network Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in the development of new technologies and designs that power Meta’s backbone
  • Work with other team members and groups to develop scalable network designs, solutions, and policy recommendations
  • Write and review code, develop documentation and capacity plans, and debug the hardest problems, live, on some of the largest and most complex networks and systems in the world
  • Guide engagement with vendors and internal development teams (hardware and software) to deliver network innovations and expansions in your area of expertise
  • Evaluate deployment architectures and translate them to internal and external requirements/roadmaps
  • Perform deep dives on complex technical issues across networks, ranging from automated tooling to hardware failures and network issues
  • Together with your engineering team, you will share an on-call rotation and be an escalation contact for service incidents
  • Help increase operational efficiency between peers and cross-functional teams by identifying roadblocks, designing and delivering automation solutions, and driving change
  • Drive reliability across the backbone network that interconnect our datacenters around the world and the tooling that supports it
  • Partner alongside the best engineers in the industry on the coolest stuff around – the code and systems you work on will be in production and used by billions of users all around the world
  • Expert knowledge of IP versions 4 and 6

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with ISIS or OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and knowledge of the latest trends in programmability of networks (OpenConfig, NetConf, YANG, etc.)
  • Experience coding in higher-level languages (e.g. Python, C++, Go, etc.)
  • Experience in configuration and maintenance of network devices, NMS systems, load balancers, or optical systems
  • Experience learning software, frameworks and APIs
  • Experience configuring at least one routing / switching vendor (Juniper, Cisco, Arista, Brocade, Ciena, Infinera, etc.)
  • Understanding of routing and switching – hardware design and knowledge of forwarding and data planes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on a global network backbone at scale
  • Engineering degree, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Experience understanding and mitigating network hardware and topology failures
  • Working knowledge of optical transport network technologies
  • Experience automating network configuration changes, provisioning systems, or alerting systems
