Director, Secondary Literacy

Location: Flexible within the United States; some travel may be required

The Program Strategy Team develops the logic models, outcomes, and literacy and math content that shape the goals and approach of ANet’s school- and system-based – coaching services.


We are seeking a Director, Secondary Literacy to design, deliver and curate professional learning sequences and materials that reflect ANet’s overall approach to literacy and target needs relevant to secondary literacy (grades 6-12) in particular. The ideal candidate is an expert adult learning facilitator, has had success evolving and implementing a standards-based literacy professional development strategy, and has K-12 instructional acumen to meet emerging partner priorities and needs.


Design and deliver literacy learning opportunities for ANet’s School and System Services Team

●        Develop and facilitate opportunities for ANet’s school and district coaches to deepen and sharpen their understanding of literacy content and coaching, with a particular focus on secondary literacy.

●        Design and revise learning experiences that elevate the use and value of our products and platforms in service of evidence-based practices in literacy instruction.

●        Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of support to inform future iterations of learning experiences.

●        Serve as an in-house expert on current research and identified trends in secondary literacy instruction and intervention practices to accelerate learning.

●        Collect, synthesize, and share trends and best practices in instruction in our partner schools as well as in ANet’s literacy coaching.

●        Advise and support coaching needs that span our K-12 literacy approach.


Curate ANet’s K-12 Literacy Professional Learning Catalog and Teaching & Learning Cycle materials

●         Develop perspective and opinions on the state of literacy instruction and coaching in partner schools and use this perspective to improve the alignment and depth of planning, data analysis, student work materials and overall Teaching and Learning Cycle materials related to Literacy.

●         Update existing and design new professional learning and resources content to reflect instructional best practices in literacy with an emphasis on equity, student voice, and cultural responsiveness.

●         Ensure that materials are well organized, easily accessible to coaches, and explicitly incorporate ANet’s literacy products and data reports, for example ANet’s interim assessments, Performance Tab, Standards Tab.

●         Track trends in literacy questions from coaches and partners and take action to weave findings into existing materials and/or new resources.  Evaluate the impact of new resources and adjust course as needed.

●         Gather and update resources and centralized information on non-ANet formative literacy assessments so that our coaches can easily access knowledge about common literacy assessments that their partners use and incorporate support accordingly.



In order to be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the following:

●         You have deep knowledge of best practices for literacy instruction and the literacy shifts/standards (with particular expertise on literacy best practices and needs in grades 6-12).

●         You have demonstrated success with session design and facilitation for a range of audiences focused on defined short- and long- term outcomes.

●         You bring demonstrated ability to coach and develop other adults, particularly related to literacy.

●         You have an ability to manage multiple, competing priorities at the same time while applying strong judgment about high leverage instructional and coaching moves that will lead to improved student outcomes.

●         You have excellent skills in relationship building and in spotting strengths, allowing you to honor and build from successes and current work of our team while also introducing new knowledge and approaches

●         You operate with a learner orientation, to become knowledgeable on new topics within literacy, and an ability distill relevant components of that learning into work

●         You  have a strong belief in the value of culturally relevant pedagogy within literacy instruction.

●         You have a passionate commitment to and a sense of urgency for the support of schools, along with a belief that all students can achieve at high levels.

●         You are motivated by working in an environment where we live out our core values daily.
