Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Lead, Virtual

Our client is a boutique accounting firm that specializes in providing management accounting services to micro businesses and non-profit organizations. They are expanding and ready to hire a customer-centered accounting and finance professional to join their firm as their “Financial Planning & Analysis” Lead.  Their dynamic firm engages in high level strategic consulting, detailed bookkeeping work, and other critical administrative duties. They are a one-stop shop for all the financial needs of their clients, ensuring that all the pieces of the financial picture are functioning as one cohesive unit.
This position is perfect for an experienced professional in business financial planning, analysis and advisory that would enjoy helping micro businesses and non-profits grow and achieve their financial goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide outsourced planning, analysis and advisory services to clients (functioning as their “Fractional CFO”).
  • Maintain client relationships and serve as main point of contact with clients.
  • Leads financial planning and strategy meetings with clients.
  • Helps clients develop KPIs and targets which will guide them to their goals.
  • Provide financial scenario planning for clients to see how different assumptions can affect their financial goals.
  • Utilizes financial planning and analysis software (“Fathom”) to perform duties.
  • Identifies, creates, and manages financial projects for clients which are designed to help them work through challenges and achieve goals.  Examples of projects include: Sourcing financial capital, Creating hiring plans, Purchasing new equipment, Maximizing product mix, etc.
  • Assist with managing and directing the complete finance team for clients, including the bookkeepers, tax preparers, insurance brokers, human resources agents, etc., to ensure that everyone is working as a cohesive unit.
  • Work closely with the clients’ bookkeeping team to ensure that financial reports are accurate and designed to provide adequate information for planning and analysis purposes.
  • Conducting regular touch-base meetings with clients.
  • Conduct quarterly financial reviews, with analysis and commentary, to help clients understand and utilize financial information to achieve goals.
  • Prepare updated financial projections on a regular basis.
  • Works with clients in the understanding and utilization of key financial reports to gain insight into their business, reduce costs, and drive a profitable strategy for success.
  • Assists clients in defining financial goals and directs preparation of the annual budget.
  • Manages the annual financial attestation and tax preparation process (with an external CPA firm).
  • Prepares and presents financial reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Manage the cash flow for clients and resolve any potential cash flow deficiencies (including assisting the client in obtaining lines of credit and term loans).



  • 5+ years’ strong experience as a full-charge bookkeeper/senior accountant (7+ years if no degree or certification)
  • 3+ years’ experience in comparable financial planning & analysis and role
  • Experience working with multiple clients in a consulting /advisory capacity
  • Master’s Degree in Business (with Accounting Concentration), or equivalent certification, or relevant prior experience
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification or equivalent certification highly desired
  • Experience working with micro businesses and non-profits (less than $5M annual revenue)
  • Confidence and ability in leading advisory discussions with business owners / entrepreneurs / non-profit leaders
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks online required
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Fathom analysis software recommended (but not required)
  • Ability to build rapport within team and clients
  • Ability to manage projects and control project scope
  • Ability to read financial and KPI reports and discern relevant information to achieve client goals
  • Ability to explain complex financial concepts in a simple and understandable manner for business owners and non-profit leaders
  • High level of professionalism, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills are critical to success
  • Excellent analytical skills, people skills, and self-direction
  • Ability to work within deadlines and under pressure
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
  • Strong technology experience and ability to work remotely with virtual systems
  • Ability to work with, guide and provide on-the-job training to junior associate staff members
