We’re building a team capable of shaping humanity’s progress over the course of the 21st century. Our goal is to usher in the Wisdom Age and create a flourishing world for all. Our team background reflects this—we’ve taught Blockchain Ethics at MIT, directed millions of dollars to good causes, and worked in AI at Fortune 100 companies.

I. What is Roote?

Roote ( is an educational hub and for-public startup studio accelerating the personal and collective transformation necessary for humanity’s transition to the Wisdom Age.

  1. Our educational hub runs the Roote Fellowship, a podcast, and a newsletter.
  2. Our startup studio launches Roote Projects, ambitious projects which catalyze systems-level change for a wiser world.

II. Role Overview

Roote is rapidly growing and launching initiatives across many domains, including Web3, government effectiveness, information ecosystems, effective altruism, and complex systems. We need to find world-class individuals in all of these areas to advance our mission.

Your north star is simple: Can you hire passionate and exceptional individuals that will create the change we want to see in the world?

This position is extremely entrepreneurial. We’re looking for a relentlessly resourceful teammate who learns and executes quickly.

What You’ll Do

  • Seek out and hire the best possible people with an emphasis on raw talent and mission alignment
    • Cultivate a self-organizing community of talent by developing relationships with Roote’s audience and partners, using a CRM to stay connected with promising candidates
    • Proactively source top talent, using the most effective headhunting methods for each position, spanning LinkedIn Recruiter to cold outreach on Twitter
    • Raise awareness of our job openings across the internet, which may include posting in niche job boards and Discord communities, and running targeted ads
  • Employ evidence-based hiring methods to effectively, efficiently, and fairly discern top talent
  • Prioritize diversity in every step of the hiring process, from reaching out to underrepresented communities to using tools that enable anonymized candidate screening and gender-neutral language in job descriptions

You will do all of this in a network-first way: by building community and collaborating with existing communities. If you help other orgs hire talented people, that’s great!

After 1 year, success looks like: you’ve hired 5+ successful Roote Project leads and 5+ successful internal staff, and built relationships with 100+ potential collaborators.

After 3 years, success looks like: you’ve created a Roote talent community that can instantaneously reach 100+ talented people interested in working with us on any part of our mission

You May Be a Fit if You

  • Have experience hiring world-class talent. (Or have a desire to do so!)
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Love building community.
  • Have a proven ability to be a self-starter capable of driving business results without significant supervision.
  • Have the ability to bring structure to ambiguous strategic questions and thrive in an unstructured, fast-moving environment.
  • Have a strong bias toward concrete action. You should often ask: “Why can’t this be done sooner?”
  • Have a strong bias towards ambition. You should often ask: “Is this the most ambitious plan we could come up with?”

III. Logistics

Type: Full-time.

Time Expectation: Start as soon as possible.

Location: We are a hybrid org based in the SF Bay Area. If you’re here, we’d work in the office together a few days a week. If you’re not here, we’d have quarterly offsites.

Compensation: The starting salary, which we expect to increase as we grow, is $70,000/year + hiring bonuses.

(The listed salary is based on US rates. We adjust salaries to reflect regional costs of living.)
