We’re looking for someone who is 75% product manager and 25% program manger to lead our efforts both product and business wise to launch a new product adjacent to our current offering. We have a strong, rapidly growing, business in the k-12 space, where we’ve reached critical mass. We’re now going after a big opportunity to connect students to employers in middle-skilled career paths. We’ve done a lot of the ground work and have a tremendous platform to launch this new product/business from.
SchooLinks is the fastest growing company in the College and Career Readiness Space (we’re ed tech SaaS selling as an enterprise product to k-12 schools). We’ve got the best student-facing user experience (modern, exciting, feels like you’re using a social app rather than something your teachers make you use) and robust tools for districts to track data and improve their workflows around helping students apply to college and find careers.
We’ve built 80+ features in the last 2-3 years with a team of <15. Right now we actually have no product managers and have been having our designers and engineers work closely together to minimize time to shipping (we ship new features on average every couple weeks). We’re looking for our first product hire to lead the expansion of our offering to employers to solve their talent pipeline challenges and help districts figure out how to better assist their students in finding careers.
Your role will be a bit of working with districts and employers to identify their needs around attracting and hiring student talent. First you will figure out how to serve them manually or with spreadsheets and data pulls from our platform and work to figure out how we will structure a product that will provide real value to employers. Then you’ll work with our team to put together an actual product offerings first in MVP work, and then adding more refined tools.
We know the k12 space well and we have kickass engineers and designers, so you’ll have a team that will support you. You’ll also work closely with our CEO and marketing team to build the business case around this product and a go to market strategy. Our headline launch partner for this product is Tesla because their Austin GigaFactory is located within one of the school-districts we serve, so you’ll work closely with their team.
We’re looking for candidates who have launched full products and businesses from scratch before and are comfortable making calls that will affect our business and lay the groundwork for something big. We’re hoping you bring some knowledge of hiring, hr tools, applicant tracking systems, workforce development, or workforce planning — but if you’re experienced with adjacent problems or products that help users use data to find the right entities within an ambiguous search space or you’re experienced learning, scaffolding, and refining complex business processes by building technology products, that’s really the most important thing we’re looking for.
