Job summary
Alexa is the groundbreaking intelligent agent that has changed customers’ lives and made voice driven experiences a reality today. If you are passionate about innovating in the space of artificial intelligence and are a highly-motivated, talented software engineer who wants to bring AI into the lives of our youngest customers, then come join the newly formed Alexa Kids Experience team. To enable our vision of making Alexa a fun, learning companion for kids, engineers on our team must innovate daily and build new unique Alexa experiences from ground-up. They must solve a range of technical challenges across the Alexa architecture – involving speech recognition, natural language processing, interactive voice dialogs, distributed systems, and much more, to build solutions that scale to millions of devices and customers across the globe.

Key job responsibilities
As a member of our engineering team, you will solve technical challenges across a wide range of disciplines to deliver our product roadmap. You will build new services and experiences, delivering new Alexa features used daily by customers. To be successful in this role, you will need to:

Produce clear and logical design documents for new features and/or initiatives
Implement and test software from ground-up to create new capabilities for kids using Alexa
Develop solutions through iteration, with an agile mindset, making decisions using data and customer feedback
Translate functional requirements and collaborate with other team members and partner teams in Alexa to effectively coordinate solutions and understand design tradeoffs
Build highly scalable and operationally excellent solutions across our entire software stack

A day in the life
Your role in this startup team will offer diverse opportunities for creating innovative software. On a given day you might:
Design and develop micro-services to create new Alexa experiences for kids and their parents
Work closely with speech recognition, natural language understanding and text-to-speech technologies to make Alexa more exciting for kids
Build service architectures that have rock solid availability and performance
Work closely with customers, product managers, cross-team developers to build innovative software
Contribute to shaping up the learning habits of our youngest customers

About the team
The Alexa Kids Experience team is a new startup team that focuses on building delightful voice-first experiences for kids and their parents. We envision our youngest customers to be able to use Alexa for fun, learning, staying connected, and more. Our vision is to build AI experiences and solutions ground-up to make the world’s most popular digital assistant an indispensable resource for young families.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Programming experience with at least one software programming language.
  • 1+ years of experience in software development

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous technical internship(s).
Experience with distributed, multi-tiered systems, algorithms, and relational databases.
Effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
Adept at handling ambiguous or undefined problems as well as ability to think abstractly.
