What Is Employee Growth Rate & Why Is It Important?

We are the Reporting Platform team, a team whose mission is to make all seller data at Square instantly accessible and relatable, to both internal product teams and to third-party developers and sellers.

To do so, we are building a GraphQL-based search and reporting platform capable of operating at Square scale. We started first in the Payments domain, building out a high-scale system capable of searching and aggregating across Square’s vast payment domain in real-time. We’re now scaling the system with new functionality and building it truly as a platform to achieve the same across all seller domains at Square.

We are looking for a senior engineer who can join the team and increasingly take on a technical and organizational leadership role on the project as we build toward company-wide scale.

You will:

  • Work with Product and stakeholders across Square to identify platform requirements, and work within the engineering team to plan and implement the corresponding features.
  • Provide high-quality hands-on contributions across multiple code bases.
  • Identify technical and architectural end states for the project, and influence/evolve the code case in those directions.
  • Monitor and measure team progress to ensure the team is delivering sustainably.
  • Play a key role in choosing technical investments for the team.
  • Mentor and grow engineers across the team.

You have:

  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • Proficiency in large-scale Ruby projects, or a history and interest in quickly learning new technologies and stacks.
  • Strong product intuition and interest, with platform-building experience
  • Tactical and strategic leadership experience on medium/large-scale software projects
  • Strong written communication skills for internal and external stakeholders
  • Interest and experience in mentoring other engineers

 

Even better:

  • Experience and familiarity with Kotlin, GraphQL, Elasticsearch, and AWS technologies
  • History of contributions to open-source projects
  • Familiarity with the payment-processing domain
