The VP, Engineering – Head of IT Transformation will be responsible for setting the technology vision and strategy for Atlassian, executing an innovative and efficient approach to better enable the business through technology. This role will lead the systems, tools, and processes that enable every function at Atlassian – from HR to Finance to Marketing, serving as a strategic and innovative partner. This VP will lead Workplace Technology, Intelligent Automation, Enterprise Architecture, and IT Applications across the globe. They will have the opportunity to not only lead and enhance the way IT is run within Atlassian, but to serve as a role model and thought partner to the customers they serve.

The VP, Engineering – Head of IT Transformation will be accountable for establishing and aligning the organization around an engineering-centric IT strategy that supports Atlassian’s strong growth and competitiveness in the marketplace. The successful candidate will ensure that Atlassian IT adopts best-in-class product engineering practices and build-first approach to IT. They will be energetic with keen business acumen and must become a passionate consumer and advisor of Atlassian’s products/services, including developing a robust Customer Zero practice that serves as a competitive differentiator in the market and contributes to product innovation.

The VP, Engineering – Head of IT Transformation will be a proven transformational executive with experience leading a high-performing engineering function within a growing, best-in-class software environment. They will possess strong leadership and strategic agility coupled with a depth of engineering experience and an entrepreneurial drive, in order to instill confidence with the business. They will have responsibility for short and long-term solutions with an emphasis on speed, efficiency, flexibility, scalability, and user experience to drive growth, enhanced decision making, efficiencies in operations and a superior customer experience.

Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Partner with executive leadership to develop a comprehensive business systems and technology roadmap to drive scale and efficiency that meets business goals and aligns to corporate strategy.
  • Implement the tools, processes and structure to run IT like a business with a product operating model and a secure and stable foundation.
  • Increase innovation to enable IT to operate “in front” of the business to help Atlassian work better, faster and smarter.
  • Mature “Atlassian on Atlassian” and Customer Zero practices. Utilize Atlassian IT as a commercial showcase and testing ground for Atlassian products.
  • Maintain operational excellence while creating a more efficient, agile, and effective operational model that considers and leverages best available resources – both internal and external to the company.
  • Establish effective systems and process governance programs to foster maturity across the business.
  • Drive standardization, process consistency, and data quality across business processes.
  • Identify gaps in existing business processes, systems and infrastructure and drive changes to remedy these issues as Atlassian continues to scale.
  • Increase productivity of the workforce by accelerating business processes through automation and simplification.
  • Partner with the senior executives and cross-functional business teams to build automation to replace current human processes.
  • Evaluate relevant IT aspects of merger and acquisition opportunities and associated integration strategies.
  • Ensure that the Atlassian IT team is a modern IT team with best practices that are the best in the industry. Help transform Atlassian IT into operating with a product centric operating model and a bias towards building its own products.
  • Foster a culture of “IT-as-a-Service” to functional leaders and end customers.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with other senior executives at Atlassian.

  • Proven experience leading large-scale engineering organizations, ideally for a multi-product, hyper-growth SaaS company.
  • Proven experience partnering with business leaders on developing effective key processes within larger value streams, striving for automation wherever possible.
  • Proven experience developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization and push the boundaries within the industry.
  • Proven ability to effectively balance the desire/need for broad change with an understanding of how much change the organization is capable of handling, to create realistic goals and implementation plans that are achievable and successful.
  • Strong technical chops; ability to not only delve into the details but also drive broader strategic architectural discussions.
  • Customer obsession; experience establishing a culture that is laser focused on top-quality delivery.
  • Ability to debate, discuss, and commit to a strategy across peer functions and teams.
  • The leadership style and charisma to deliver the long-term technical vision in a way that will rally and inspire the organization.
  • Track record of talent followership; ability to build world-class teams by recruiting, retaining, and developing top technical talent.
  • Experience driving a SaaS-based and cloud-forward architecture strategy that enables internal/enterprise technology to deliver a highly automated, scalable applications environment is a plus.
