Working hours
Given that we are an all-remote company and hire almost anywhere in the world, we don’t have a location requirement for this role. However, your working hours must overlap with 8am-4pm Pacific Time for at least 10 hours per week so we have time to collaborate synchronously when necessary.
Why this job is exciting
As a Product Manager for the Content Platform team, you will be a crucial member of our exceptional high agency team to achieve our company-wide mission of helping Sourcegraph become the standard tool for searching and understanding public code. In this position you will be working on the content platforms that enable the success of Sourcegraph’s business objectives.
Sourcegraph is an all-remote team where transparent asynchronous communication is core to our success. One of the key success factors in your role as a product manager is to clearly communicate the problems being solved, the outcomes, and how we will measure success.
Within one month you will:
- Start building a trusting relationship with your peers.
- Understand your team’s projects; why the projects are important to our company goals, the current status, risks, and mitigations.
- Meet with stakeholders key digital assets (our websites, product documentation, and handbook) to build an understanding of the challenges they face and how your team can help enable their needs.
- Maintain the roadmap, backlog, and curate and solicit feedback for the product area.
Within three months you will:
- Steer and refine the goals of the team, in line with plans that support business objectives.
- Have a trusting relationship with your direct peers & team members.
- Be able to clearly articulate the connection between your team efforts and the larger company goals.
Within six months you will:
- You will partner directly with your team, engineering manager counterpart & stakeholders across the company to establish clear problem statements, validate priorities, and improve planning & communication.
- Celebrate the fact that your team has delivered key results in support of their objectives for the year.
- Establish a clear roadmap of work for the next 12 months
Within one year you will:
- Improve consistency across our marketing site, product documentation, and handbook
- Enable a seamless experience for Sourcegraph team members easily contribute content to our marketing sites, product documentation, and handbook
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop the next set of ambitious goals that your org should work towards.
- Communicate clearly the improvements your team expects to make to the digital assets (our websites, product documentation, and handbook) your team oversees.
- Cultivate a high performing team by upholding the PM – EM partnership responsibilities.
About you
As a Product Manager, you’re a storyteller, pulling together the story of “why”, and getting people excited about what your team is doing. Through this, you influence, excite, and align folks within your team and across the organization about what your team is working on. You are constantly curious. You possess a deep passion in enabling prospective customers as well as current users through excellent digital assets (our websites, product documentation, and handbook). You are organized, results driven and provide clarity across the organization and your team, to help inspire focus and reinforce that they are working on the right things. You are strongly aligned with our values, inspired by our mission to make it so that everyone can code, and motivated to do your best work at Sourcegraph.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years working as a Product Owner / Product Manager (or relevant experience)
- Relevant domain knowledge in marketing, product education, and sales
- Ability to stay focused on goals and strategically prioritize work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience at taking a pragmatic approach to balancing tradeoffs between quick delivery impact and long-term objectives
- Demonstrated ability to drive and influence across a variety of stakeholders
- Proven ability to partner with stakeholders & engineering team to find acceptable solutions
Nice to haves:
- Previous experience leading initiatives to improve content management systems and processes
- Experience working remotely with globally distributed teams
- Experience working as a software engineer
