About the Role

As our first Software Development Tech Lead at Zippity, you will have significant ownership over the product and the success of the technology team. You will help to define what to build and how to build it and will support the team of developers throughout the process. You will work across our front-end and back-end code bases.

The Software Development Tech Lead role is expected to be 50% coding and 50% technical leadership and direction. We are looking for a team player who is excited to wear multiple hats and help build an amazing product.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and direction: Create technical design plans for current and upcoming features. During implementation, work closely with developers to make design decisions that are scalable and efficient. Propose new technologies, frameworks, and methodologies to best support the team and the product.
• Develop knowledge to act as a domain expert: Deepen your understanding of our tech stack, which includes React, React Native, and Python. Work closely with the team of five developers to provide support and unblock them when questions or issues arise.
• Collaborate, mentor, and advise team members to promote productivity and effectiveness: You will work alongside our product managers to make our sprints more efficient for our developers. You will collaborate on story creation, estimation, and provide technical guidance when outlining roadmap priorities
• Code! You will spend about half of your time writing code and creating full-stack features to be used by small business owners across the country.

• You have experience. You know how to build great software and have in-depth experience building modern web and mobile products (both front-end and back-end). You’re excited to teach your teammates new skills and to learn alongside them.
• You’re a great communicator. You recognize that coding is not just communicating with machines, but communicating with other humans via machines. At Zippity, you will be asked to synthesize customer feedback, make smart informed decisions, and build consensus with your teammates.
• You’ve got an entrepreneurial spirit. You don’t get excited about 10% Year-over-Year growth – you get excited about turning the world upside-down and growing by 100x. We are a distributed team. We started in the greater Boston area, but we have grown to have employees in 7 different states. We collaborate online with Zoom/Slack, and we find creative ways to bring people together in person a few times a year.
