As the largest cultural institution in Maryland, the BSO is internationally recognized and locally admired for its innovation, performances and recordings, and educational community initiatives including OrchKids. Launched in 2008, OrchKids provides children educational resources and fosters social change through the power of music in some of Baltimore’s under-resourced communities.
JOB SUMMARY
The Officer, Corporate Relations is responsible for raising financial support and relationship building goals for the BSO through the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate partners. The Officer will personally manage a dynamic portfolio of corporate sponsors and prospects in both the Baltimore and greater Washington, D.C. markets as well as be tasked with deepening the prospective corporate sponsor pipeline, including national opportunities for brand alignment and marketing sponsorships. A crucial member of the Advancement team, the successful candidate will be a strategy focused, collaborative fundraiser with excellent external relations skills and a drive to build new funding streams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising and Portfolio Management
- Work closely with the SVP and Chief Advancement Officer to set and implement overall strategic direction to advance corporate proposal renewals and new solicitations.
- Manage a mixed portfolio of ~75-100+ corporate funders with specific financial goals (encompassing annual, endowment and/or special gift prospects inclusive of the annual Gala, capital/naming, artistic/institutional projects, and restricted education programs), outreach, and solicitation strategies, and stewardship. This activity includes but is not limited to:
- Creating curated pitches and proposals that are compelling and on-brand.
- Leading pitch meetings with new and existing corporate partners.
- Negotiating corporate partnerships to ensure mutually beneficial value.
- Leveraging and contributing to centralized grants/proposal management and benefit activation in the BSO’s CRM, Tessitura (regularly checking and adding in deadlines, new prospects, etc.).
- Supporting standardized operating procedures and data integrity, providing updates to donor records and research notes in the BSO’s Tessitura database for funder reporting, moves management, and stewardship communications.
- Identify new funding sources through research and networking, designing creative strategies to secure new sponsorships.
- Provide regular metrics on portfolio activity and successes
- Act as a lead staff member in the development and activation of new corporate engagement programs, including a Corporate Council.
- A highly effective team member, working closely with Advancement team members as needed including providing guidance on benefit implementation to the Development Services team and generating leads for corporate volunteerism with the Director of Partner Development.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally, building rapport and a positive working relationship with Marketing/PR, Artistic, and Education & Community Engagement colleagues to best source, design and implement corporate funding opportunities and packages.
- Actively participate in team meetings, the Portfolio Management Group, and portfolio reviews.
Represents the BSO and interacts with all levels of the organization and institutional partners.
Works concerts and special events as needed to network/entertain existing partners and prospects.

Requirements
- REQUIRED5 years of fundraising, sales, or portfolio management experience with proven success
- Superb communication (verbal and written), and confident presentation and people skills
- Entrepreneurial – willing to try new approaches and refine when needed
- Strategic, holistic, and collaborative approach to planning and execution
- Excellent task, time, and project management skills, ability to set goals and objectives, and use tools to updated projections regularly
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Power Point, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to work with highly sensitive, confidential information.
- PREFERREDExperience using a CRM software such as Tessitura
- Enthusiasm for music, Maryland, community, and relationship & business development
- Strong relationships nationally and/or throughout Maryland a plus
