The payments landscape is changing rapidly with hundreds of ways to accept payments online globally. Given the plethora of innovation in this space, payments has never been more complex for merchants to implement and maintain; similarly, e-commerce has never been more important for merchants globally.
Primer is bringing simplicity to this complex and dynamic landscape. We offer one payment infrastructure for merchants, freeing them to work with multiple providers through our one API. We will be a constant in a world where new payments methods and services are unveiled daily.
About Primer:
- We were set up in January 2020 by ex PayPal founders
- We’ve grown to a team of 50 people, all working 100% remotely – from the UK, Sweden, France, Romania, South Africa, Singapore, the USA and more!

The Role
We’re looking for an inquisitive and hard working Software Engineer to join our Backend teams, developing our integrations with processors, fraud providers, payment methods and more.
Our Connections team is building our developer framework, a next-generation product that will allow third parties to integrate with Primer in hours rather than weeks. We’re looking to create the best possible developer experience so we need engineers who can not only use but improve on the framework.
Our Checkout team creates the experience that empowers merchants to offer hundreds of payment methods to their customers via a single integration. We’re looking for engineers who can research and integrate new payment methods while helping us to optimise this process in the future.
What does the role involve?
- Researching and building out integrations with numerous third party APIs using our Node.js based developer framework
- Owning how integrations are implemented and helping shape our developer framework
- Continuously suggesting ways we can improve on developer experience and internal tooling
- Developing a deep understanding of the payments landscape
- Helping us to build and maintain open source tools
Requirements
- Knowledge of programming, proficient in at least one language (commercial or self-taught)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ideally, you’ll have completed a degree in a related subject
- Passion for beautiful, well tested code
- Nice to have: familiarity with at least one of the major JS UI frameworks (e.g. React, Vue.js)
