Surf Air is a consumer air travel company based in Los Angeles, California that is reinventing flying through the power of electrification. There are three primary departments that work closely together: Marketplace, Amp Division, and Air Operations. We are looking for talented individuals that are passionate about shaping the future of air mobility and inventing something the world has never seen before.

As a Director of Engineering, you will report to the Head of Engineering.

Position Title:  

• Director of Software Engineering

Role Objectives:

• Work closely with the Head of Engineering to determine overall engineering strategy, collaborate on the product roadmap, and create the engineering roadmap.
• Collaborate with the other groups within the technology org, including product, design, and data, as well as cross-functionally with marketing, sales, and other departments, to ensure holistic, high-quality delivery.
• Manage and hire for a team of energetic, efficient, process-oriented, and data minded engineers. Help your direct reports to grow and develop as engineers, teammates, managers and leaders.
• Create a culture of product engineering excellence, with an effective feedback loop between the execution and business teams. Provide routine feedback via code reviews and one-on-ones. Mentor, coach, and support the professional growth of everyone on your team; create career paths and goals for each team member.
• Leverage the building blocks of modern technology marketplaces to develop systems catering to the needs of both the demand and supply sides.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to architect and manage internal/external systems
• External systems:
  • Airline PSS (reservation management system)
  • Payments (credit card, wire transfer, etc.)
  • Customer relationship management system (select and integrate)
• Internal systems
  • Customer-facing application
  • Marcom website
  • Member services dashboard
  • React native mobile app (design and build)
  • Static site generators
  • Marketing tech

Experience with the following or comparable technologies:

• Node.js
• MongoDB
• React
• AWS/managed hosting
• Gatsby

Education & Experience:

• Ideal candidate has experience creating/growing/scaling a modern technology product and engineering teams
• Bonus for building software that ties together the digital and physical worlds.
