What Is Employee Growth Rate & Why Is It Important?

Engineering Manager

(Remote, North America time zones)

Are you an engineering manager who cares deeply about empowering developers, helping them build better software and scaling teams? Are you enthusiastic about open source, continuous delivery and modern engineering practices? Would you like to put everything you’ve learnt about high-performing teams into action to improve developer experience and system reliability in our industry? We have a team of talented engineers building software in the Kubernetes ecosystem that we’d like you to meet.

Weaveworks helps enterprises build better software and operate it reliably, at scale. We’re thought-leaders and industry-changers when it comes to Cloud Native technologies and practices. We created open source tools you’re probably familiar with; FluxScope and EKSCTL. Our approach – GitOps – is where continuous delivery meets Cloud Native and puts enterprises on the path to continuous everything.

You’ll grow and nurture an engineering organisation that is well-regarded, diverse, and regarded as experts in their field. You’ll help us balance engineering efforts that both serve a community and contribute directly to revenue generation. Our portfolio includes established, category-leading products like Flux, products we’re incubating that are yet to be released and our flagship enterprise product, Weaveworks Kubernetes Platform.

You will get to;

  • Manage distributed and remote engineering teams
  • Grow a healthy and collaborative global engineering team by recruiting and retaining amazing software engineers
  • Coach and mentor individuals and teams to help them realize their full potential
  • Partner with other engineering managers to define, advance and advocate the principles of our engineering standards, practices and vision
  • Partner with Product Management to align engineering priorities so that we deliver rapid value to our customers and open source community users
  • Contribute to strategic planning
  • Continue to build your profile, represent Weaveworks with clients and in open source community contexts
  • Collaborate with your peers, teams, product management and our exec team to create a co-ordinated product stack across open source and commercial offerings

We would love to hear from you if:

  • You’re a former software engineer who has moved into an engineering leadership role in an agile, open source leaning environment
  • Finding an organisation that would make great use of your intelligence, integrity, ideas and inquisitive nature is really important to you right now
  • You have a track record of helping high-performing, highly technical, remote-first teams ship great products
  • You have a pragmatic approach to agile processes and organisational change management
  • Building balanced and inclusive teams while scaling fast is important to you
  • You have an interest in or prior experience leading open source projects
  • You bring breadth of open source engineering practice experiences

This role reports to Paul Fremantle, our VP of Product Engineering. We welcome candidates with interesting and diverse backgrounds, for example fluency in multiple languages and cultures. While this role is remote, you will be leading teams across North America and Europe and our immediate priority is US based candidates who bring a mature understanding of the challenges of building high-performing, balanced teams across the US.
