Job Overview

PLEX is looking for its first in-house legal counsel to be an important leader and oversee a wide range of legal issues as the company continues to grow, including drafting and negotiating commercial transactions, overseeing regulatory affairs, and advising on compliance, IP, data protection and privacy.

Reporting to the CFO and dotted line to the CEO, this is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial, forward-thinking lawyer who’s comfortable in hyper-growth environments and a fast-moving volume of legal business demands to provide innovative solutions that deliver the best results for PLEX.

The In-house Counsel will be responsible for leading and executing legal initiatives, managing outside law firms , establishing policies and processes, and providing advice on strategy, compliance, and risk management.

 

What you’ll do

  • Oversee all legal matters and work closely with the Executive Team on a full range of strategic and operational needs to the business
  • Serve as the primary legal contact for reviewing all contracts, compliance and regulatory initiatives, and data protection efforts
  • Own the creation and negotiation of content, licensing, distribution, sales deals, and work closely with senior management and their teams in finalizing agreements and dealing with issues as they arise
  • Provide speedy and thorough turnaround of contracts, incorporating stakeholder feedback with a view to the best outcome
  • Negotiate with outside teams and provide efficient communications of status and tradeoffs to internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate and oversee work of outside counsel and internal support team to ensure agreements are appropriately distributed and shared with relevant stakeholders

What you bring to the table

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • You understand that a good lawyer is a business partner, always looking for ways to help the business legitimately accomplish its goals rather than just pointing out obstacles.
  • Public or private company experience, private to public (IPO) is ideal
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of technology agreements, contract law, IP rights, and regulatory issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and negotiation skills with all levels and outside parties
  • Proficiency in drafting agreements and distilling complicated legal concepts into core components and ideas
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholder and external parties
  • Strategic thinking and risk analysis
  • Understanding of Plex’s existing and expanding product offerings
  • Ability to manage varied, high-volume deliverables efficiently and quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • You are very detail-oriented and focus on delivering seamless, high quality results
  • You are kind, humble, helpful and enjoy getting stuff done
  • You are intrinsically motivated, able to manage your time, and enjoy working with a distributed team across the globe
  • You believe in asking for help and helping others when they ask, never throwing a problem over the wall

Remote Work

  • Plex hires new team members in countries around the world.
  • As such, Plex does not sponsor employment visas.
  • All of our roles are remote, however some roles may carry specific location-based eligibility requirements. Our hiring team can help answer any questions about location after starting the recruiting process.
  • Also, please note, though we largely work asynchronously, as it relates to meetings, those generally occur in UTC -7 to UTC -4
