What Is Employee Growth Rate & Why Is It Important?

The Infrastructure Engineer will be part of the infrastructure engineering & operations team that designs, engineers, implements, and maintains The New York Times Global Terrestrial and Cloud Infrastructure, and its Identity platform.

 

The individual in this position will bring expertise to continually improve the NYT IT infrastructure design, to engineer new and innovative solutions that address continually evolving needs, and provide a secure and highly available computing and identity platform. In addition, s/he will configure and maintain existing infrastructure components, implement upgrades, utilize management tools to monitor & report on the reliability of the environment.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Independently research and provide both business and technical solutions based on and related to customer needs and specifications and deploy them into our production infrastructure.

  • Monitor, test, analyze and evaluate the existing infrastructure environment and optimize it based on resiliency, technological advancements, and cost

  • Design and implementation of automation platforms

  • Evaluate new technologies and create alpha/beta releases, and determine the viability and suitability of existing technologies

  • Produce documentation of use cases, business and technical solutions, and overall technology concepts—and write reference architecture papers to explain how expedient products can be used to solve specific business challenges

  • Present to and solicit feedback from application, development, and operations teams

  • Ability to influence stakeholders about adopting new technology, solution improvements, and updates to existing technology

  • Be part of an on-call rotation to monitor, analyze and resolve critical infrastructure issues and incidents, including on an emergency basis

  • Occasional travel in support of implementations & operation is required.

 

The Infrastructure Engineer will need to have the following skills:

  • 5-7 years of progressive professional experience in IT

  • Strong understanding of Identity and Access Management domain

  • Recent relevant experience supporting Microsoft Active Directory, AzureAD, ADFS, SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect

  • Strong experience managing multi-factor authentication, single sign-on or passwordless authentication within hybrid environments

  • Experience with Cloud based deployments on AWS and GCP Cloud Platforms

  • Working experience with Linux and Windows Operating Systems

  • Experience working with foundational enterprise technologies such as DNS, DHCP, PKI, LDAP, Syslog, and Monitoring systems

  • DevOps experience with Automation (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Saltstack) and Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher, etc)

  • Experience managing/deploying virtualization platforms such as VMware

  • Coding/scripting experience in Python or PowerShell

  • Good communication skills and must be able to work collaboratively with clients and other technical colleagues
