Job Description

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Legal Writer to work under the direction of our Legal Department and other departments to create content for internal/external communications and education. You will conduct research, write, review and summarize legal and legislative content related to property & casualty insurance, employment law, ERISA/employee benefits, healthcare legislation and insurance laws at the state and national level. You will translate this information to accessible and relevant materials. This is a full-time remote position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide content team with summaries of laws, regulations, and related matters on topics ranging from employment law, employee benefits, insurance, to marketing and communications law and considerations
  • Format, proofread, and edit related materials and coordinate production
  • Work closely with members of the legal team to ensure the accuracy of all information
  • Coordinate and present occasional webinars on timely topics
  • Complete other projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS JOB

  • Bachelor’s degree required; J.D. with law review experience preferred
  • 3-4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in law, journalism, or related field
  • Experience with Westlaw and/or Lexis research
  • Ability to write clear, concise copy on complex regulatory topics
  • Substantive working knowledge of employment law, ERISA/employee benefits, healthcare and insurance regulations
  • Canadian/international legal exposure a plus
  • Strong leadership, research, analytical, and verbal/written communication skills
  • Creative problem-solver, self-starter, strong work ethic and desire to grow with the position
  • Excellent organizational skills
