Company Description

Dropbox is a leading global collaboration platform that’s transforming the way people work together, from the smallest business to the largest enterprise. With more than 500 million registered users across more than 180 countries, our mission is to design a more enlightened way of working. From our headquarters in San Francisco to eight dedicated Studios and a worldwide team of employees who choose where they work best, our Virtual First approach is leading the way into the future of work.

Team Description

Our Research & Design team crafts delightful experiences that make people’s lives easier. We’re a close-knit, collaborative group, guided by a highly iterative user-centered design process. Combining research, data, and thoughtful critique, we’re discovering needs and solving fundamental problems that impact work and life for millions of people around the world.

Role Description

The Files team is primarily responsible for the customer experience of some of the most central parts of Dropbox on the Web. We own fundamental experiences used by millions of people around the world, including our file browser, end-to-end upload experience, and content previewer, and collaborate with partner teams around the company to improve and enrich these experiences.

This role will be focused on crafting excellent experiences for our customers to preview and interact with their content, with a particular emphasis on rich media like photos and videos, as well as helping shape the future of our file browser. You’ll collaborate closely with our many partner teams to craft seamless end-to-end journeys that touch almost every aspect of the Dropbox experience on the Web. You’ll also play a key role in defining processes, teaching best practices, and elevating the craft bar across the Files design team, both by mentoring other designers and by being a thought partner with the design manager.

Responsibilities

  • Driving discovery and planning with your PM partner on immediate roadmaps and longer term strategies related to Files team scope.
  • Running sprints or related exercises to work quickly through synthesizing insights and solution iterations with regular contact with customers throughout.
  • Executing detailed and thorough designs accounting for edge cases and technical constraints.
  • Socializing and collaborating with your immediate team in addition to more broadly across Dropbox.
  • Mentoring members of our team in methods, craft, communication, and socialization.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of UX-related work experience
  • Steadfast empathy for our users, their lives, and what they hope to gain from using Dropbox.
  • Excellent interaction design and visual craft skills including some experience with prototyping.
  • Demonstrated skills for collaborating closely with other designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers across organizational boundaries.
  • Ownership mindset with a bias towards action, helping to drive teams and projects forward.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects from discovery through shipping/iteration.
  • Prior experience designing for rich Web apps. Experience designing for mobile apps is preferred but not required.
  • Culture builder with excitement around building trusting and collaborative environments
  • Clear, compelling presentation and communication style
  • Comfortable with travel, potentially quarterly post-COVID.
