Please note: th is position is remote. It does not require the employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis. In this USA, this is an employee who lives 100 miles or more from their designated, primary worksite.
The role of the Strategist – EV Policy is to engage on key policy topics related to GM’s transition to an all-electric, zero emissions future aligned with the Paris Climate Accord. The Strategist will develop strategies internally and externally to accelerate EV adoption and support work related to electric vehicle incentives, infrastructure roll-out, vehicle-grid integration, supply chain, and deployment of clean fuels programs. Responsibilities also include broader environmental policies related to greenhouse gases and climate change, including emissions credit trading, cap and trade programs, environmental tax policies, etc. This role is eligible to work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
In this role, the Strategist will lead project management activities, working with all functions within GM, to develop corporate policy positions and engagement plans to complement GM’s planned EV rollout. Coordination activities include interfacing closely with the following groups within GM: infrastructure, V2X, Energy Strategy, Planning, Sustainability, Finance and Legal organizations. The Strategist will also track and review proposals on GM’s behalf from various stakeholder groups (government, NGOs, trade associations, etc.) in the electric vehicle and infrastructure space.
Externally, the Strategist will represent GM in trade associations, with Non-Governmental Organizations and in specific matters related to federal and state regulatory agencies. The Strategist will be a key leader for developing policy strategy and positions in support of GM’s transition to an all-EV future.
Responsibilities
- Create policy positions with coordinated input from all internal functional areas of GM
- Work with federal, state and local regulatory agencies, other external organizations, and all functions within GM to create climate policy options and incentives consistent with the Paris Climate Accords and an industry-wide glidepath to zero emissions.
- Communicate GM positions on various issues to Federal, State, Regional and Local government agencies as well as other relevant stakeholders such as investors and NGOs
- Engage in collaborative efforts with other automobile manufacturers, suppliers, government, academia, and other stakeholders
- Work closely with internal functional areas on overall strategic plans and problem resolution
- Lead and coordinate meetings, outputs and proposals
- Domestic travel may be required
Additional Description
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree required
- Master degree preferred
- Highly developed oral and written communications skills
- Strong cross-functional knowledge and project management leadership required
- Work well both independently and on teams
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate team members, and elicit work output
- Problem-solving skills where problems are complex and the demonstrated ability to develop processes, if none exist
Desired Skills
- Experience working within or adjacent to the electric utility industry is preferred
- Experience in providing written comments to policy proposals
- Experience in interacting directly with a broad group of external stakeholders and policymakers
- Able to quickly and accurately identify key issues and trends/signals in the policy arena
- Able to develop specific policy proposals (such as drafting legislation and regulatory text)
- Experience and strong skill in team facilitation
- High level of enthusiasm, persistence, leadership ability, initiative, and experienced judgment to identify priorities, initiate projects, and complete activities with a strong sense of urgency
- Experience creating and managing cross functional teams to solve complex problems (e.g. rulemakings)
- Strong proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel
Compensation : The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful Colorado applicant might be paid in accordance with Colorado law. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of Colorado.
- The median level of salary compensation for this role is $95,000. This position may also be filled with a senior level candidate – the median level salary for a Senior candidate in this role is $113,000.
- Bonus potential: an incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
