What Is Employee Growth Rate & Why Is It Important?

What’s Bench? Check us out in Medium, Betakit, Financial Post, Fintech Impact, Perkins + Will, BC Business, our Instagram, and our Blog.

We acknowledge that Bench headquarters is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Our mission is to make a profound difference in the quality of life of one million people, by removing the financial complexity of entrepreneurship. Businesses need to understand their financial performance, but for many smaller ones, this means a trade-off between doing their books and running their businesses.

Bench solves this dilemma by taking bookkeeping off of their hands. Learn more about us on our About page.

We’re growing fast, and we’re looking for exceptional people to join us on this incredible journey. Check out our culture guide to learn more about what it’s like to work at Bench!

A message from the Hiring Manager:

Hi! I’m Dylan, the Creative Director here at Bench. I lead the small but mighty Brand team in support of our greater Marketing organization, as well as business units across the company. It’s an exciting time for Bench — we’re deep in the journey to make a difference in the lives of small business owners — and we’re looking for a Senior Designer to join our team and help reset our design practice. You’ll work closely with me, our designers, copywriters and team leads throughout Marketing to audit the strengths and weaknesses of our visual design system, suggest areas of opportunity, and build foolproof systems for implementation and repetition. While redefining our brand language you’ll execute high impact side projects for Product Marketing, Client Marketing, and Paid Advertising that delight, attract, and ultimately drive impact for the business and the users we serve. We’re looking for a standard bearer, someone whose craft speaks for itself yet relishes the opportunity to present and unpack each concept. Tell us your story! Send us your work! I’m looking forward to meeting you.

What does the Brand Department look like?

The Brand team, a division within the Marketing organization, is made up of designers, copywriters and strategists. It is responsible for Marketing communications company-wide, and sets the standard for visual design across Bench.

What you’ll be getting up to:

Set the company standard for excellence and craft in Brand design.

  • Contribute to the evolution of our visual identity by exploring unique ideas, approaches, methods, and solutions.
  • Communicate complex topics strategically, intuitively, and creatively across the entire marketing ecosystem, working with teams like Client, Paid, Lifecycle, Growth and more.
  • Present and explain creative concepts and design systems to stakeholders of all levels.
  • Guide and evangelize an end-to-end design process; from concept generation, to iterative mockups, production and delivery of final assets.
  • Ensure thoughtful visual consistency and quality across multiple areas of work by sharing progress, providing thoughtful critique, and working collaboratively.
  • Provide design direction for junior designers and stakeholders across the company.
  • Where appropriate, define and build templates to support business units at scale.
  • Work with business unit leaders to identify specific areas of impact.
  • Center user needs at every brand touch point.
  • Evangelize design thinking company wide.

Tackle complex challenges with creativity and intelligence.

  • Brainstorm with copywriters to build integrated, strategic campaign concepts that deliver on insightful briefs.
  • Oversee design standards for all projects in production, working with the team to illustrate ideas, iron out concepts, and solve creative and business challenges, visually.
  • Set the team standard for presenting concepts thoughtfully and effectively.
  • Lead the design feedback loop with stakeholders; proactively respond to feedback in person and in writing throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all design is thoughtful, consistent, and meets the Brand standard.

Drive creative with vendor partners.

  • Partner with our Creative Director and Project Manager to manage a small cohort of external vendors.
  • Own projects executed externally; act as a creative point of contact with external partners of all kinds, from video production to graphic design.
  • Give feedback and iterate in a timely, consistent manner.

Develop the culture and cross functional reputation of Bench’s Brand team.

  • Build strong relationships with cross-functional partners across the company.
  • Advocate for the needs of the Brand team with cross-functional partners.
  • Identify solutions when partners’ needs and Brand needs are not aligned.
  • Design company-wide communications by the Brand team.
  • Collaborate with copywriters to deliver well-crafted presentations, presenting work carefully and thoughtfully.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have:

  • 5+ years of professional brand design experience, either in house, at agencies, or both.
  • A high level of expertise in Figma, Sketch, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated craft in design.
  • Demonstrated ability to think conceptually.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas with simple design executions.
  • Experience designing for channels across the consumer journey, from top of funnel (paid advertising, social) to client marketing (email, etc.).
  • Listening skills and the ability to maintain strong cross-functional stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to proactively prioritize, manage and complete multiple projects within time constraints and with strong attention to detail.
  • A positive, go-getter attitude; a passion for storytelling and helping build a growing brand.

It could be an even better fit if you:

  • Experience in art direction and narrative storytelling.
  • A Creative Director’s point of view; the ability to ask for and digest insights, then lead concept generation and visual experimentation.

The extra details:

  • This is a full-time permanent position because we want to spend lots of time with your wonderful self!
  • This position offers an extended benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision. In addition, all Benchmates have access to Inkblot Therapy, our virtual counselling service to support mental wellbeing, and Bravely, our confidential, on-demand, 1:1 professional coaching service.
  • At Bench we share information freely and openly whenever possible. The salary range for this role is $70,800 to $88,500. Stock options will also be a part of the total compensation package.
  • Our office has gone fully remote! We’ll set you up with everything you need to work from home, from day one.

Everyone has their own unique talents. Even if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications outlined above, tell us why you’d be a great fit for this role in your application.

We believe that unchecked biases disproportionately impact the most marginalized people in society—including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+ people, immigrants, and people with disabilities. We strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or other marginalized communities because we believe that without you, we are all less. At Bench, we don’t stand for tokenism. We stand for representation.
