What Is Employee Growth Rate & Why Is It Important?

Hi. We’re Zipline! We’re helping put technology into the hands of those that need it most – – retail workers. If you have worked in a store, you know the drill. You’re helping customers, ringing up orders, and trying to do the 30 tasks that HQ wants you to do. Some pertain to you. Some don’t. The Sr. Manager, Internal Communications at Zipline will be a connector and storyteller; someone who seeks out opportunities to communicate and can “feel” moments where communication is missing. We don’t want you to simply take directives and communicate them – we want you to help develop whatever needs to be communicated to the company in an unforgettable- unmissable way. Not only should you have experience connecting with people in many ways, but you should also have the confidence to challenge all of us and push us to adopt new ways to connect.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Invent, and drive, an internal comms strategy that keeps us informed and connected during rocketship growth. Figure out what we want and need to say, when to say it, and how to say it across internal channels. You will be developing the strategy, process, and infrastructure while bringing people along the way.

  • Be constantly and completely plugged into every part of our operation, build strong relationships in every department, and develop a broad knowledge of what’s happening throughout the company.

  • Constantly seek out the most inspiring stories that reinforce our business objectives, our culture, and our overall inspiring vision for the future, and create innovative ways to communicate those to the Zipline team.

  • Produce superb written internal communications and provide constructive feedback on executive and other internal communications, including Basecamp posts, Slack messages, Guru cards, presentations, videos, and speeches.

  • Assist in inventing, planning, and executing internal events – and the occasional customer-facing one, too.

  • Guide and educate the Zipline employee base on how to be better communicators internally and externally.
  • Writing, communicating, and project planning constantly

More about you:

  • 5+ years of communications experience, preferably leading internal communications for companies across multiple locales.

  • Minimum 2 years in a Communications Manager level role, with people management responsibilities.

  • Proven ability to support business goals with a compelling communications strategy that is rooted in the company’s business, people, and culture.

  • Experience working with senior leaders and the confidence to challenge and guide the messages they deliver and the way they deliver them.

  • The agility to thrive in a constantly changing environment, juggle competing tasks and projects, and people with exceptional organization.

  • Creative, strategic thinker, and storyteller with exceptional writing and editing skills who can quickly communicate what we need employees to know, feel and do
  • Experience with digital communication tools, channels, emojis, and leading-edge solutions.
  • Strong empathy: the ability to listen carefully, be sensitive to different audience perspectives and different ways people take in information, and be inclusive in all communications.

How do we work? Remotely. We have been 100% remote since the company was founded and we have it down to a science – – a people science. We huddle as a team weekly and as a company 3 times a week. On Fridays, we come together to learn from each other. One week it might be about opossum rescue. Another week it might be an update on our product roadmap or the results of our customer satisfaction survey. We are all masters of Zoom and love the freedom of working from home – – or vans – – or sailboats.

We haven’t even gotten to our customers! Think about the best retail brands, from your favorite tennis shoes to yoga pants. They’re customers. And, in addition to dozens of specialty retailers, this year we added grocery store, pharmacy, and convenience store brands.

The word is getting out. We are featured regularly in the press, mostly because of the results we get from our customers. Here’s a look at just some of the articles published recently.
