About us

Genomics PLC is an innovative Biotech dedicated to transforming health, healthcare and drug discovery through the power of Genomics. At Genomics, things move fast and there is a big focus on talent. Founded by 4 world leading geneticists, we have combined our talented scientific teams with impressive in-house engineering and commercial functions and are now a company of more than 100 people, and have raised over £90million in funding. We are proud of our origins and every step that has led us to where we are today.
Our vision is to develop and harness world-leading science in genomics to change people’s lives for the better. Genetics in medicine is not always about rare diseases, cancer or pathogenic mutations,  it is also about forging new and better ways for understanding, treating, and preventing common diseases.
Genomics plc is a unique lifetime opportunity to help create paradigm shifting technologies in healthcare. We are working towards a world in which we can understand the mechanisms of disease well enough to produce effective and tailored medicines, and one focused on preventative healthcare. Our vision of genomic prevention is one in which doctors and health care systems can deliver care before people get sick.
Our culture is honest and transparent.  We have big plans and are looking for people to join us and make a real impact. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse, energetic, and smart bunch of people throughout the company.

The Role:
We are seeking a senior scientist to join our Therapeutics Team. The goal of this team is to discover novel therapeutics to improve the outcomes of people living with chronic disease.
Our core technology provides a deep understanding of the genetic basis of disease, enabling a more precise and accurate identification of drug targets and the selection of patients for clinical trials.
The role will complement the existing expertise in our internal Therapeutics Research Team, exploiting Genomics’ unparalleled core technology. They will be responsible for helping identify novel therapeutic targets, supported by biological insights from human genetics and functional genomic datasets, and identifying appropriate experimental settings for target validation.

Responsibilities

    • Elucidating biological mechanisms conferring risk for disease via individual candidate targets and developing clear therapeutic hypotheses for experimental validation.
    • Leading the analysis of genetic association or functional genomics data from our existing database and from newly available resources.
    • Providing guidance and oversight of experimental work aimed at validating target hypotheses.
    • Identification of novel published data sets for integration into our existing database.
    • Presenting research findings at internal meetings and, where appropriate, to external partners.
    • Collaboration to improve existing software and methods developed internally.
    • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior employees.
    • Given the sensitive nature of data used in Genomics plc you will be expected, as with all other employees, to ensure high standards of information security in your work.

Requirements

    • A PhD in statistical, population genetics, human disease genetics or functional genomics of humans or model organisms.
    • A minimum 2 years of postdoctoral experience in an academic or industry setting.
    • Experience analysing GWAS, exome, whole-genome sequencing and/or large-scale -omics datasets (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq or similar).
    • Experience using standard statistical approaches and modern computational tools.
    • Experience in a high performance compute environment and with modern statistical software (R or similar) and programming languages (Python or similar).
    • Ability to integrate information from a wide range of genetics and genomics datasets to form clear mechanistic understanding of disease risk loci.
    • The ability to effectively summarise and visualise datasets to identify patterns, signals, or potential biases.

Desirable Skills & Experience

      • Experience of wet-lab molecular or cell biology experimental design, optimisation and implementation using in vitro or in vivo model systems.
      • A background in immunology and genetics of immune diseases.
      • Experience using genetics and genomics data in drug target discovery.
      • Familiarity with modern functional genomics approaches, including single cell omics, CRISPR or epigenomics.
      • Familiarity with software version control and experience working in a collaborative coding environment.

In return we offer…

    • The opportunity to work alongside talented colleagues in an enthusiastic company that combines cutting-edge science with commercial delivery.
    • A focus on rapid commercial translation (independently and with our partners), so our work improves people’s lives.
    • Access to amazing data – you will work with one of the largest and fastest-growing genotype-phenotype databases in the world.
    • Dedicated time for blue sky projects and research.

Company Benefits:

      • 25 days holiday (excl. bank holidays)
      • Flexible and remote working opportunities
      • Genohacks: Dedicated time to innovate and create
      • Virtual Workshops and Spotlight talks
