What Is Employee Growth Rate & Why Is It Important?

Hi, We’re Stride

We provide the world’s first benefits platform crafted specifically for individuals, who don’t receive employer-based benefits. We help them save time and money on insurance, taxes, and hundreds of thousands of products and services. Since launching in 2014, Stride has helped over 3 million Americans save over $3 billion

Stride delivers benefits for people who work without employer benefits We’re building the world’s first platform designed for the independent workforce, and we’re looking for outstanding people (like you!) to help us do it. Today, 60 million Americans work independently and that trend is only accelerating. For many Americans, benefits are tightly coupled with their full-time, W2-based jobs where they receive group-based benefits. But for millions of Americans who work independently, their livelihoods are at-risk and outside of that financial safety net.

That’s where Stride comes in. We make it extraordinarily easy and intuitive to find the best and most affordable health care coverage for independent workers and their families, including dental, vision, life, accident, and disability coverage. All the same benefits you’d expect from a W2 employer, but built specifically for contract workers, part-timers, and self-employed Americans.

Stride partners with the world’s leading platforms and employers of non-benefited workers including DoorDash, Uber, Postmates, MasterCard, Amazon, Aon, Willis Towers Watson, and others to help them provide their workers access to affordable health and wealth benefits and perks In 2021, the company launched its Stride for Health Plans platform to enable simple ACA enrollment for health insurance carriers. The company is backed with over $96M in capital by Venrock, New Enterprise Associates, Fidelity’s F-Prime Capital Partners, Mastercard & Allstate.

The Role

The Stride Engineering Team is on the lookout for a motivated fullstack software engineer to help take our web architecture to the next level. We’re a small team that collaborates very closely and your work will have an enormous impact on our current web architecture and how we scale it for the future. You’ll be joining a fullstack product engineering team made up of both frontend and backend engineers of all levels. You’ll work closely with these engineers to establish patterns, set best practices, and implement both frontend features as well as infrastructure as code. You’ll work with both product and design teams to set milestones around deliverables and chart a course for the long term strategy of our suite of web products.

We’re looking for a highly autonomous engineer with a proven record of leveling up others. Someone who will help set a higher standard and break new ground in how we operate and evolve our team and development practices.

Responsibilities

  • Help to modernize our codebase and its supporting infrastructure
  • Advocate for proven and clean architecture principles, testing, and Continuous Integration/Delivery
  • Own large chunks of the web codebase and infrastructure and have a leading voice in its future direction
  • Developing frontend and backend application architectures that allows Stride to move swiftly and iterate quickly and is backed by rock-solid infrastructure
  • Be a mentor and coach to the other engineers on the team, helping to raise the bar for quality
  • Work with our devops team to help build and maintain Stride’s web AWS infrastructure using Terraform
  • Design, build, and maintain user-facing flows, API’s, services, and system to solve problems end-end
  • Maintain a high level of engineering and security standards

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience building contributing to both frontend and backend applications
  • You have deployed your apps/services to at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Deep knowledge of Node.js and TypeScript

  • Experience with relational database systems (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL systems (DynamoDB, Redis)
  • Experience with Terraform or other IAC tools
  • Experience with containerization, Docker or similar
  • Good active listening skills, the ability to empathize with customers, stakeholders and other engineers
  • Lead by example by practicing open and respectful dialogue
  • Most importantly, you possess a strong bias for action and a growth mindset. You are as comfortable zooming in to apply your expertise as you are zooming out to see the big picture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GraphQL
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure services (EC2, ECS, VPC, RDS, ElastiCache, etc)
  • Have built ExpressJS Applications
  • Experience with server-side rendering frameworks like Next.js or similar
  • Experience designing and setting up CI/CD pipelines
  • Have used Redis
