Mission for Technical Project Manager role
To define technical scope of projects, serve as the liaison between clients & engineering, and provide technical guidance & project management support.
About the role
As our first technical project manager hire, you will be overseeing the engineering aspects of our external client projects, and managing a team of developers & designers.
The ideal candidate is a technical lead who can scope out the tasks and resource needs of projects, serve as the point of liaison between the customer and the development team, nurture strong relationships with accounts by providing excellent customer service, and provide technical guidance to ensure smooth delivery of projects.
What you’ll do
Understand customer needs and translate them into technical features/use cases to address their requirements
Scope out tasks for the engineering team, and provide technical guidance to team members
Serve as the liaison between clients & internal stakeholders throughout project life cycles
Negotiate deliverables and timelines with external client stakeholders
Maintain regular and prompt communication with clients
Proactively identify, mitigate, and offer viable solutions to issues/risks
Answer questions and product usage guidance as needed
Manage client expectations effectively
Ensure the quality and timeliness of deliverables
Proactively identify, mitigate, and offer viable solutions to issues/risks
Track account priorities and action items to ensure commitments are satisfied in a timely manner
Collaborate with internal teams to provide informed recommendations into our product roadmap and process improvement initiatives
Conduct technical interviews, review take-home assignments, and screen new engineering hires
What we’re seeking
Previous tech startup or early-stage company experience
1+ years of small group leadership and coordination experience in planning and delivery of technical projects
Ability to analyze business requirements to determine and assess feasibility
Strong product awareness and system design capabilities
Experience mentoring other software engineers
Excellent written & verbal communication skills, and the ability to convey complex matters in a clear and succinct manner
Solid understanding of best practices across technologies (client/server-side, QA, deployment, project management etc.)
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Great team player who enjoys collaborative work
Diverse knowledge of tech stacks and ecosystems, and curiosity to learn new technologies
Creative problem solver with strong decision-making skills in choosing different technologies
Demonstrated professionalism, patience, and composure in stakeholder interactions
High level of conscientiousness and empathy
Thrive in a self-motivated, fast-paced, often ambiguous and rapidly changing environment
Fluent in English and Spanish
Nice to Haves
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
Familiar with our tech stack: React.js, Python, Javascript, Typescript, AWS, CI/CD
Experience using project management tools like Asana
Experience in a client-facing work environment and managing customers in a technical capacity
Experience bringing products to market
Experience working with developers & designers from Latin America
Have lived in Latin America or have familiarity with Latin American culture
