Coinbase’s Learning & Development team is growing quickly and is looking for skilled, driven, Technical Writers to partner with our Technical Trainers/Teaching Engineers.  They will produce learning content and documentation to provide new-hire and ongoing learning for engineers at Coinbase. The vision is to reinvent workplace learning by building the programs, products, technologies and mechanisms that make teaching and learning fast, effective and scalable for Coinbase employees. We use an outcomes-based, embedded assessment approach to our online learning designs that are grounded in learning science principles. We are a team with a passion for raising the bar on learning and learning design at Coinbase. We partner with multiple businesses across Coinbase to explore ways to innovate and scale online learning to help Coinbase employees grow their knowledge and capabilities.

We are looking for a skilled writer and editor who is comfortable and excited to write about software engineering practices.  This role is an opportunity to build and refine the practices and procedures used to produce technical documentation at Coinbase.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Creating world-class developer docs that are clear, accurate, and consistent.
  • Producing a variety of content, including but not limited to docs, blogs, books, tutorials, and video scripts.
  • Taking a strategic view of Technical Writing at Coinbase, helping us build the discipline and how it fits into engineering practices.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation style guides and templates.
  • Editing content produced by engineers, technical writers, and technical trainers for adherence to templates and style guides.
  • Ensuring consistency in voice, tone, and language.
  • Partnering with L&D team to produce and maintain templates that will help scale the written documentation at Coinbase.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 3+ years of experience writing documentation for developer audiences
  • Experience with the end-to-end documentation creation process.
  • Ability to format content in Markdown, HTML, CSS, and Confluence.
  • Ability to interpret, create, and maintain sample code in multiple programming languages (Go, Javascript, Python, and more)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate difficult concepts and processes using clear and simple language and visuals.
  • Adept with docs-as-code and industry tools such as Linux, Git/GitHub, OpenApi/Swagger.
  • Comfortable embedding with and collaborating closely with engineering.
  • Skilled at writing and building REST API documentation.
  • An aptitude for content design and clean information architecture.
  • Enthusiasm for financial innovation and Coinbase’s mission.

Nice to haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in learning design, learning science, instructional design, educational psychology, or similar field.
  • 3+ years’ experience designing online instructional activities to support adult learners.
  • Professional experience as a software engineer
  • Familiarity with Golang, React Native, Terraform, Protobuf, Bazel, Ruby/Rails
  • Demonstrated consistent delivery on commitments – great organizational skills with exceptional follow through and attention to detail.
  • Able to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced work environment.
  • Innovative and proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise integrity and sound judgment in complex and ambiguous situations.

Notice for Colorado applicants as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20). Target annual salary for this role performed in Colorado is either $105,400 or $127,075* + target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
